Cure Unknown: Inside the Lyme Epidemic
Natural Treatment for Lyme Disease eBook
Here is some research I have compiled outside of the 5 step plan – for the best
natural treatment use the 5 step plan in the next chapter, but you can also add
some of the following treatments if you so desire for greater results.
The Basics
Most who have fought Lyme disease with natural treatments agree that a good
round of vitamins work wonders as a foundation.
? Multi-Vitamin: A good multi-vitamin can go a long way. When you’re
searching for one, try to choose on how many supplements they have,
and how much each contains. If you’re not sure what would be right for
you, ask someone working there – they’re usually very helpful, and know
what they’re talking about.
? Aloe Vera: Aloe Vera, in juice or pill form, is thought to help inflammation
and many other things. It’s used as a treatment for a type of cancer in
animals (It’s still being tested with humans), and is thought to have many
beneficial properties to it. You can find it in any health store.
? Flax Oil: Flax oil is said to improve numerous things – from curbing
appetites for the dieters to reducing inflammation in the joints from Lyme
disease, it’s something that’s cheap, easy, and – for many people – works.
You can grab flax seed oil at any health food store, and there are all sorts
of sizes to choose from.
? Gingko Biloba: For quite a long time, Gingko Biloba has been thought to
help with memory loss, and overall improve the brain functions. It can be
found in capsule form at any health food store, and usually doesn’t cost
too much.
? Calcium: Calcium not only helps strengthen bones – it’s said to improve
joint functions with the arthritis that’s associated with Lyme disease. It can
be found in many different forms, and nearly anywhere supplements are
sold.
? Magnesium: If you’re a late-stage Lyme disease sufferer, and have some
of the heart problems associated with the disease, magnesium is said to
help. Improving circulation in the body, it’s said to strengthen the heart and
overall improve it.
? B-Complex: Vitamin B is said to improve all sorts of things, and a Bcomplex
vitamin can improve energy, and increase neural functions. It can
be found just about anywhere.
Cleansing
Body cleansing, in many circles, is said to help improve the health of the body all
around. With claims of increasing life span, flushing all sorts of diseases out of
the body, and even preventing organ failures when serious health problems are
involved.
Some say that a full body cleansing can be a great step towards improving your
health, and ridding your body of bacteria like Lyme disease.
There are four steps that many people say that you should take to help rid
yourself of Lyme disease.
? Bowel Cleanse: A bowel cleanse is said to regulate bowel movements,
and reduce the chances of developing any other disease. A bowel cleanse
is done by pushing water up into the bowel, and then removing it. It’s said
that you can remove pockets of waste that have built up in ‘pockets’ of the
bowel, and overall be healthier.
? Kidney Cleanse: Kidney stones affect many people, and it’s said that a
kidney cleanse can reduce or eliminate kidney stones, and other diseases
associated with it. It’s unclear whether this cleanse has any proven health
affects, but many swear to it.
? Liver Cleanse: Many cleanse-lovers say that a liver cleanse, or flush, can
help anything from acne to cholesterol to constipation and fatigue. While
there hasn’t been any definitive evidence proving the health benefits,
some surveys have suggested that repeated flushing (7-9 times) has
drastically improved the quality of health and living.
Hydrotherapy
Many medical doctors encourage hydrotherapy for all sorts of pains – with Lyme
disease, hydrotherapy can reduce the pain in joints that’s commonly felt, and
really improve your day-to-day life.
For dull, penetrating pain, you can apply a warm (not hot!) compress to the
places that it hurts the most, for 20-30 minutes. You can repeat every four hours,
or until your pain has reduced.
For sharp, intense pain that’s usually more bothersome, an ice pack is best.
Either use an ice pack, or just toss some ice cubes in a plastic bag, then lay a
towel over the skin. Don’t use the ice pack for more than 20 minutes at a time,
though, as you can risk damaging your skin.
The 5 Step Plan to Eliminating Lyme Disease
Step 1: Alkalize and Detoxify
THIS SECTION OF THE BOOK RECOMMENDS DRINKING APPLE CIDER VINEGAR AND BAKING SODA. WHILE I RECOMMEND APPLE CIDER VINEGAR, I DO NOT RECOMMEND BAKING SODA. ADDING LEMONS TO WATER IS ALSO VERY ALKALIZING AND ENJOYABLE!
Step 2: Vitamin C and Sea Salt
Consume the following dosage four times a day, after meals.
Vitamin C (3000mg 4 times a day)
I use GNC Ester-C® 1000 (Vitamin C). Because these are 1000mg I must take 3
per dosage – so 12 a day.
Sea Salt (3 grams 4 times a day. – use 1-gram tablets for convenience)
I use 1-gram Sodium Chloride USP tablets made by the Consolidated Midland
Corporation (CMC).
We order these through our local pharmacy. They are not a prescription drug, but
not having widespread use are rarely a stock item and need to be specialordered.
The CMC salt pills have an NDC # of 0223-1760-01, which should help
your pharmacist locate the exact type.
The cost is about $10 US for a bottle of 100 tablets. We usually order a dozen
bottles at a time to make it worth the pharmacy's effort. Given the costs of other
treatments and the long-term debilitating nature of lyme disease, we think this
cost is acceptable.
Another source for salt tablets is available over the internet.
This process will make you feel pretty horrible (with diarrhea) – but it is
necessary. You see what occurs in your body is the Herxheimer reaction, which
is an excretion of toxins from dying organisms; this will be experienced. Diarrhea
will occur as your body sheds itself of the pathogens.
Water is an important factor,
not just in keeping yourself hydrated, but to make sure the treatment is circulating
through your entire body.
Step 3: Lavender oil and Tea tree oil
You will only need to do this step if you are getting rashes on your skin.
These two oils are available from your local health food store or Wallmart.
Mix the oils 50%/50% and make enough to rub on your skin rashes using a
cotton ball.
Apply this 4 times a day. This should kill the Spirochetes and eliminate the rash.
Step 4: Immune Boosting
I recommend the following 10 tips for immune boosting:
1. Drink your lemons. Lemon is the ideal food for restoring acid-alkali balance.
Drinking freshly squeezed lemon juice in water, or adding it to tea, salad
dressings (in place of vinegar), baking or cooking, helps maintain the body's
internal "climate" at a pH which supports healthy bacteria instead of the viruses
and harmful bacteria which thrive in more acidic environments. Apple cider
vinegar is another great way to improve your body's alkalinity, but the taste of
lemons is much more pleasant!
2. Give your body an herbal boost. Hundreds of herbal supplements and
tinctures exist to give the immune system additional support during the winter. I
recommend essential oils as an excellent source of immune-stimulating
compounds, and the rawest and most natural form of any medicinal plant, but
there are other supplements which can be effective.
3. Get a full night's sleep. Sleep has been linked to balanced hormone levels
(including human growth hormone and the stress hormone, cortisol), keeping
weight down, clear thinking and reasoning, improved mood, and vibrant, healthy
skin.
5. Drink plenty of water. This is almost, but not quite, a given; most headaches
occur because despite the number of reminders, people still aren't getting
enough water! Headaches and thirst are both signs of dehydration. You should
be drinking, in daily ounces, half your body weight in pounds. (i.e. Body weight in
pounds, divided by 2 = number of ounces of water per day.)
6. Stop drinking coffee. Contrary to recent marketing as a source of
antioxidants, chocolate and coffee are two of the worst things you can do for your
immune system and your health. Caffeine robs your body of minerals and
vitamins, and it dehydrates you.
7. Worse yet is the impact of refined white sugar. If you do only one thing to
boost your immune system, eliminating sugar will do the trick. You will see
noticeable results in your energy levels, weight distribution, immunity and your
ability to think clearly when you break the cravings and stop eating refined sugar.
8. Stock up on raw fruits and vegetables for their antioxidants, vitamins,
minerals, fibre and enzymes. The nutritional content that you receive from raw
fruits and veggies is unparalleled. Many vitamins, including C, are antioxidants
and will protect cells - including those of your immune system - from damage by
toxins in the environment. Dark-coloured produce (berries, kale, broccoli) tends
to be higher in flavonoids, polyphenols and other antioxidants. The perfect
source of minerals is seaweed, which is sold dried, but can often be found raw
(dried at low temperatures to maintain most of the enzymes and nutrients) in
health food stores.
9. Spend some time out in the cold. Snowball fight, anyone? Time
spent outdoors in the cold also stimulates the thyroid gland.
Finally...
10. Nurture yourself. Make sure you take time to yourself, spend some time
with friends, and indulge yourself in a massage, a hot bath, or an energy work
session when you want one.
Step 5: Exercise
Look, no matter how much you hate exercise, it is an absolute necessity when
it comes to Lyme Disease.
Why? Well there are three reasons why you need to exercise during Lyme
Disease….
1) Energy
By exercising everyday or even 3-5 times a week your energy will explode, on
the first day or two you may feel a little tired, but just hang in there for two
weeks and I guarantee your energy will go through the roof.
2) Emotional Support
It is a well-known fact that exercise acts as a release for stress and other bad
emotions.
3) Blood flow
Exercise also increases blood flow and oxygen, which helps the body absorb
VitaminC and boost your immunity.
Types of Exercise
Aerobic Exercise
This should be the cornerstone of your exercise program. Aerobic exercise is
light to moderate activities that involve the use of large muscle groups and the
respiratory system.
I find the best form of aerobic exercise for menopausal women is a brisk walk.
Strength/Resistance Training
Proven to increase bone density and decrease your risk of
developing osteoporosis.
